The raging war stopped him from traveling to continue his frescos.
In the peacefulness of the Canavese countryside, he depicts the various aspects of the place as the seasons change producing about sixty oil on canvas, wood and cardboard paintings of still natures, flowers, sketches for figures and portraits.
Between air bombings he courageously opens an individual exhibit at the Artists’ Association in Turin as though to contrast the nightmare of the war.
The exhibit was greeted with enthusiasm, as demonstrated by the articles which appeared on La Stampa of September 28th and Stampa Sera of September 29th 1944:
“In these sad times we had almost forgotten painting and the pleasure of visiting an exhibit…”
and
“On the initiative of the Artists’ Association, which wants to keep the passion for art alive in these times of emergency…”. |
